"If it had not been for LRAP, I know for certain I would either be at a different school or working a dead-end job right now."

Frequently Asked Questions

1. "How do we get started using LRAP?"
  • As you decide to use LRAP, we can visit campus or discuss the program through webinars or phone calls to ensure that every member of your decision making team has all of their questions answered.
  • We train your team and help refine your plan for making best use of LRAP.
  • Your team will offer LRAP to students who are on the fence and unlikely to enroll. We will support your team with marketing materials, training and answers to their questions.
  • You notify LRAP which students enroll and then pay a fee for those students.
  • We work with you to identify lessons learned each year so you can make even better use of the program the next year.
  • After graduation, LRAP provides Loan Repayment Assistance for your low-income graduates.

2. "How does LRAP work for a student?"
  • They must attend and graduate from your college.
  • After graduation, they must work at least ¾ time to receive assistance.
  • LRAP covers not just federal students loans, but also private alternative loans and parent PLUS loans.
  • If the graduate’s income is below a specified income threshold, the graduate receives repayment assistance.

3. "How do we fund LRAP?"

Different colleges fund their LRAP budget in a variety of ways. Some common methods include: budgeting from incremental revenue, including the LRAP fee as a line item in financial aid or marketing budgets, or reducing the financial aid award for every student by a small amount, such as $50. The program is always cash flow positive (extra revenue generated by LRAP will fund the LRAP fees), because you do not pay LRAP until after students enroll at your college and pay you. There is no charge for students who do not enroll. You control the costs and benefits, because you determine how many and which students receive LRAP.
